Dawg Day of Service 2017

Dawg Day of Service seeks to realize UGA’s commitment to service through a campus wide day of service at sites on campus and within the Athens-Clarke County community. Participants have the opportunity to engage with members and leaders in the community and learn about different social justice issues that affect Athens.

We had 11 awesome volunteers come out Saturday, August 26th, to our Tanyard Creek site to help us with some general housekeeping chores. Our main focus of the day was clearing the fence line and removing some pesky invasive species that we’ve been fighting since spring. Those 11 volunteers working for about 2.25 hours cranked out 24.75 total work hours! Collectively, we managed to remove 124 Chinese yams, 123 perilla plants, and cleared about 525 feet (about 160 meters) of fence line. That’s awesome!

With all of the rain and sun, the kudzu went crazy on this side of the site. Volunteers hacked their way through with a machete!

Volunteers followed behind to remove smaller pieces of plant debris from the fence.

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and ServeUGA! It was a pleasure to work alongside you.
